🧩 11+ Verbal Reasoning

11+ Verbal Reasoning Practice

GL Assessment-style 11+ papers draw from a fixed bank of around 21 named question 'Types' — Insert a Letter, Word Codes, Number Series, and so on — and a child who has genuinely drilled all of them has a real structural advantage over one who's only seen a handful. The trap is that most children get comfortable with 4 or 5 favourite types and unconsciously avoid the rest. NobbyPlus tracks mastery type-by-type so gaps in unfamiliar types get surfaced and practised, not quietly skipped.

Type lettering (A–U) follows the GL Assessment convention used across most grammar school 11+ papers; ISEB and CEM-style formats are covered too.

Analogies

1. Complete the analogy: CAT is to KITTEN as DOG is to ___

  • PUPPY✓ correct
  • CUB
  • FOAL
  • CALF

A kitten is a young cat. Following the same pattern, a puppy is a young dog.

Word Patterns

2. Which word is the odd one out? APPLE, BANANA, CARROT, GRAPE, MANGO

  • APPLE
  • BANANA
  • CARROT✓ correct
  • MANGO

CARROT is a vegetable; all the others (APPLE, BANANA, GRAPE, MANGO) are fruits.

Codes & Sequences

3. If CAT = DBS, what does DOG = ?

  • EPG
  • EPH✓ correct
  • EOH
  • FPH

Each letter is shifted forward by 1: C→D, A→B, T→S. Applying the same rule: D→E, O→P, G→H. So DOG = EPH.
